bittybat: artse • dreamwidth (the real secret to immortality?)
Father,

If you were unable to find Pennyworth, it is because he was with me. We were transported to a pocket of space-time to participate in a ludicrous game of death for no other reason than entertainment. (It could also be a virtual reality simulation, or something more heinous. I have yet to discover the truth.)

Reading this letter means the game ended poorly, and I am dead. The "Sheriff," moderator of the game, is supposed to return Pennyworth back to our world should anything happen to me.

Todd is here as well, but not the one we currently know. The creators of this game seem to be able to pull people from different timelines. The Todd here is the one you knew when he was young. I believe he has already died in his own timeline as he makes terrible existential jokes at his own expense. Unsurprising. I don't understand how you and Pennyworth ever put up with his antics. He's a moron, leaps before he looks, and lashes out in anger without thinking.

But as far as I know, he hasn't killed. Maybe I can see why you picked him.

Nevertheless, I'm going to attempt to circumvent the true direction of his malicious game and return everyone to their own timelines safely. I may be required to do something terrible for the protection of others. I know you wouldn't approve; however, barring the exhaustion of any other methods of escape, I feel the loss of one perhaps truly not-dead person will benefit the lives of many.

The game is almost like a test. The outcome is irrelevant. All that matters is how well we play.

Give Pennyworth and the others my regards.

Addendum, W6: In the end, would you sacrifice thirty-nine people for the sake of never killing, Father? I tried. I tried to do it your way, but the odds are against us. I've watched so many others be forced to kill and, still, so many others be killed. It isn't right. I don't know how to stop it. I tried to look at it as many ways as you would. I tried to find the catch.

I have to end it so more people won't suffer, so they won't have to kill. I've taken lives before, and I'm not new to it. I'm sorry, Father. I know you wouldn't approve.

To save... my friends, I have to do it.
